Engine Block Heater: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Drain the engine coolant.
2. If removing the engine coolant heater power supply cord with the engine coolant heater, proceed with the following steps:
2.1. Remove the right side radiator cover. Unscrew the self-locking tab and unclip from body.
2.2. Remove the intake air resonator intake hose clamp and air intake hose from the air cleaner housing.
2.3. Remove the air cleaner housing.
2.3.1. Remove the cover.
2.3.2. Remove the element.





2.3.3. Unseat from the inner grommet (1) then from the outer grommets (2).
2.4. Cut the plastic tie-wrap that is used to secure engine coolant heater power supply cord to vehicle body.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





4. Remove the engine oil filter.
5. Unplug the engine coolant heater cord from the engine coolant heater.





6. Remove the engine coolant heater.





7. Note the routing of the engine coolant heater power supply cord (1) and remove the cord if applicable.


Installation Procedure





1. Install the engine coolant heater,
^ Tighten the engine coolant heater to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).





2. Connect the engine coolant heater power supply cord to the engine coolant heater.
3. Install the engine oil filter.
4. Route the engine coolant heater power supply cord to prevent contact with hot surfaces and the areas that may wear and or pinch the cord.
5. Lower the vehicle.





6. Secure the engine coolant heater power supply cord (1) to the vehicle body with a plastic tie-wrap.
7. If previously removed, install the air cleaner housing:





7.1. Seat the air cleaner housing onto outer the grommets (2) and then to the inner grommet (1).
7.2. Install the element.
7.3. Install the cover.
7.4. Install the intake air resonator intake hose and air intake hose clamp to air cleaner housing.
7.5. Install the right side radiator cover. Clip to body and secure with self-locking tab.
8. Fill the cooling system.
