Troubleshooting Hints
PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS1. The PCM has the ability to disable cruise control functions if certain conditions are detected. Refer to Circuit Operation for a list of these conditions.
2. Perform Powertrain OBDII Diagnostic System Check. Refer to Engine Controls. If DTC P1575 - Extended Travel Brake Switch Problem is current, follow diagnosis in Engine Controls. Powertrain Management
3. Check the CRUISE, STOP and RLY IGN Fuses for an open. If open, check related circuits for a short to ground.
4. Check that the cruise control linkage is connected and moving freely.
5. Check the brake Switch for proper adjustment/alignment. Refer to General Brakes. Brakes and Traction Control
6. Check for proper operation of the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL).
7. Check for proper operation of the speedometer. Refer to Instrument Cluster in Electrical Diagnosis. Instrument Cluster / Carrier
8. Check for proper installation of any aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems.
9. Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected.
