Engine Block Heater: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the right side radiator cover. Unscrew the self-locking tab and unclip from body.
2. Remove the intake air resonator intake hose clamp and air intake hose from air the cleaner housing.





3. Remove the air cleaner housing.
3.1 Remove the cover.
3.2 Remove the element.
3.3 Unseat from the inner grommet (1) then from the outer grommets (2).

4. Cut the plastic tie-wrap that is used to secure engine block heater power supply cord to vehicle body.
5. Raise and support the vehicle.





6. Remove the exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts.
7. Remove the engine block heater.





8. Note routing of engine block heater power supply cord (1).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the engine block heater.





2. Route the engine block heater power supply cord to prevent contact with hot surfaces and the areas that may wear and or pinch the cord.





3. Coat the exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts with high temperature anti-seize compound GM P/N 5613695 or equivalent and install the exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts.
- Tighten the exhaust manifold lower heat shield bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs).

4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Secure the engine block heater power supply cord to the vehicle body with a plastic tie-wrap.





6. Install the air cleaner housing and seat the housing onto outer the grommets (2) and then to the inner grommet (1).
7. Install the element.
8. Install the cover.
9. Install the intake air resonator intake hose and air intake hose clamp to air cleaner housing.
10. Install the right side radiator cover. Clip to body and secure with self-locking tab.
