Trunk / Liftgate Weatherstrip: Service and Repair

Weatherstrip Replace - Rear Compartment Opening: Removal Procedure:




This vehicles uses a foam clinch type weather-strip. The foam has an integral metal reinforcing section which grips and seals the weather-strip to the flange.

Removal Procedure
1. Pull the weather-strip from the flange toward the lower corners.
2. Remove the rear compartment lid weather-strip (1).

Installation Procedure

Review the following steps before installing the weather-strip to the rear compartment opening:
1. Check for the locating mark on the weather-strip.
2. Check for the center mark below the latch (2).
3. Install the weather-strip in one direction on the flange to insure a seal at the end.
4. Install the weather-strip to the clinch cavity to ensure proper seating to the flange around the entire opening.
5. Use a rubber mallet to install the weather-strip on the flange for proper seating.
6. The joint end of the weather-strip must be 360 mm (14 in) to 460 mm (18 in) to the right of the center when joining the weather-strip.
7. Water test the rear compartment weather-strip for waterless(s). Refer to Water Hose Test in Water Leaks.
8. Perform the following steps if waterless(s) is present:
8.1. Remove the weather-strip from the rear compartment opening.
8.2. Dry off the weather-strip,
8.3. Install weather-strip adhesive to the weather-strip cavity.
8.4. Reinstall the weather-strip.
