Thickness Variation
Excessive rotor thickness variation can result in brake pedal "pulsation" or roughness during brake applications. An approximate check of thickness variation may be performed with a micrometer as described below.1. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Measure rotor thickness at a minimum of four points around the circumference of the rotor. All measurements should be made at the same distance from the edge of the rotor.
NOTE: A rotor that varies more than 0.013 mm (0.0005 inches) can cause pedal pulsation and/or vehicle vibration during brake application. A rotor which does not meet these specifications should be refinished or replaced if the minimum thickness specifications cannot be met. Refer to Refinishing Brake Rotors.
