Average Fuel Econmy (MPG)/Instantaneous Fuel Economy
Average Fuel Economy (MPG)Average Fuel Economy is calculated by the IPC as described below.
The AVERAGE FUEL ECONOMY can be displayed on the Fuel Data Center by pressing the "AVG" button or it can be displayed on the Driver Information Center by pressing the INFORMATION button until the display reads "AVG MPG" or (AVG 1/100 km) (Digital IPC only).
The value for Average Fuel Economy will be reset when AVERAGE FUEL ECONOMY is displayed on the Driver Information and the RESET button is pushed for greater than 1 second. Average Fuel Economy (AFE) is computed:
AFE = (Trip Distance)/(Trip Fuel Used) x Calibratable scale Factor
Where "Trip" is the distance traveled or fuel used since the last reset. Fuel data is received from the PCM. This portion of the IPC will be dashed if there is a loss of PCM communications.
Instantaneous Fuel Economy (IFE)
Instantaneous Fuel Economy is calculated by the IPC as described below.
Instantaneous Fuel Economy (IFE) is based on the previous few seconds of driving as follows:
IFE = (Distance)/(Fuel Used) x Calibratable scale Factor
Fuel data is received from the PCM. This portion of the IPC will be dashed if there is a loss of PCM or PZM communications. This message may be suppressed using Option Byte E.
Fuel Used
Fuel Used is calculated by the IPC as described below.
The "FUEL USED" option is calculated as:
Fuel Used = Fuel Sum x scale Factor
"FUEL USED" feature is used to display the number of gallons or liters used since the last operator reset.
The value for fuel used will be reset when the fuel used display mode is active on the driver information center and RESET button is pushed for greater than one (1) second. This portion of the IPC will be dashed if there is a loss of PCM or PZM communications. This message may be suppressed using Option Byte E. This data is lost if the battery is disconnected.
