C1780
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Continuously Variable Road Sensing Suspension (CVRSS) control module monitors the output of the steering sensor, which is mounted at the base of the steering column. The valid output voltage range from the sensor is 0.6 to 4.75 volts. The output voltage should increase as the steering wheel is turned clockwise and decrease as the wheel is turned counterclockwise.
CONDITION FOR SETTING THE CODE "CURRENT"
The CVRSS control module detects a steering sensor out-of-range condition when the vehicle speed is greater than 50 MPH for at least 10 seconds.
ACTIONS TAKEN WHEN CODE SETS "CURRENT"
^ The CVRSS control module will assume a steering wheel angle of 0°.
^ The "SERVICE RIDE CONTROL" message will be displayed.
CONDITION FOR CODE TURNING "HISTORY"
The CVRSS control module senses a steering sensor output within the valid range once the vehicle speed is greater than 50 MPH for at least 10 seconds.
HOW TO CLEAR THE CODE
^ Use the scan tool.
^ Use the On-Board diagnostic "CLEAR RSS CODES" feature.
TEST DESCRIPTION
The numbers below refer to step numbers on the diagnostic table.
3. Checks the steering sensor output.
4. Checks the sensor for proper resistance.
5. Checks for valid sensor characteristics.
6. Checks for misalignment.
7. Checks for short to ground on any of the three sensor lines.
8. Checks for an open in any of the three sensor lines.
9. Checks for a short to voltage on any of the three sensor lines.
