C1284
DTC C1284: Lateral Accelerometer Sensor Self Test Malfunction:
DTC C1284 Schematic:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Lateral Accelerometer performs a Self Test at initialization. The sensors output will be offset by a fixed amount for a short period of time when the EBTCM powers up. The test will run when the ignition is ON, all 4 wheel speeds are 0 km/h and the steer angle is within 90 degrees of straight ahead.
CONDITION FOR SETTING THE DTC
The EBTCM will set DTC C1284 if it does not see the expected change in the output of the Lateral Accelerometer soon after initialization.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SET
A malfunction DTC is stored, ABS and TCS remain enabled, Stabilitrak is disabled and the STABILITY REDUCED message will be displayed on the DTC.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
Condition for DTC is no longer present and scan tool clear DTC function is used. Fifty start cycles have passed with no DTCs detected.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
When performing the following diagnostic procedure, ensure that the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the front wheels are straight ahead. It is important to find out from the driver when the code was set, (when the STABILITY REDUCED message was activated) and what was he doing at the time. This information will help to duplicate the failure. It is very important that a thorough inspection of the wiring and connectors be performed. Failure to carefully and fully inspect wiring and connectors may result in misdiagnosis, causing part replacement with reappearance of the malfunction. An intermittent malfunction is most likely caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.
