Circuit Description
When a key is inserted in the ignition, contacts located in the ignition cylinder contact the resistor pellet in the key. The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) measures the resistance of the key pellet and then compares it to the one stored in the IPCs memory.

DTC Will Set When:
A Malfunction occurs in the communication between the IPC and PCM. Check for other loss of serial data communication DTCs if this occurs.

Action Taken (By IPC):
The IPC will display "Theft System Car May Not Restart" message on the DIC.

Troubleshooting Hints:
1. If U1016 is Also set diagnosis it first.
2. This condition may be caused by a password mismatch between the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Perform the flowing Theft Module Re-learn procedure.
^ During this procedure the vehicle Battery must maintain an minimum of 10.5 volts. If the Battery is not fully charged or is week a battery charger may be connected. NOTE the battery charger must NOT be set in 12 volt boost. This will prevent this procedure from working.

A. cycle the Ignition Switch to the "RUN" position.
B. Wait a minimum of 10 minutes, Cycle the Ignition Switch to the "OFF" position.
C. cycle the Ignition Switch to the "RUN" position.
D. Wait a minimum of 10 minutes, Cycle the Ignition Switch to the "OFF" position.
E. cycle the Ignition Switch to the "RUN" position.
F. Wait a minimum of 10 minutes, Cycle the Ignition Switch to the "OFF" position.
G. Verify the repair.
