Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

1. Remove transaxle assembly, refer to Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles.
2. Remove eight flywheel mounting bolts, then the flywheel.
3. Drill a 1/8 inch hole into metal body of rear main seal, then remove seal using a slide hammer.
4. Place a small dab of RTV sealant at crankcase split line across end of upper/lower crankcase seal.
5. Lubricate new oil seal with engine oil, then slide seal over arbor of seal installation tool No. J 38817, or equivalent.
6. Thread seal-installer tool No. J 38818, or equivalent, in crankshaft flange and install seal by turning handle until tool bottoms against crankcase, Fig. 20.
7. Install flywheel and transaxle assembly.
