"Apply Brake to Shift" Message

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Brake Transaxle Shift interlock (BTSI) system requires that the regular service brake be applied to shift the vehicle out of Park. The IPC monitors transaxle range switch position. If the switch position is in PARK and the brake is not on, the message will be displayed.
Once this message is displayed, it will continue to displayed until the brake is applied or the "RESET" button is pressed. This message has a minimum display time of 5 seconds regardless of brake position.
TEST CONDITION(S)
1. Transaxle range switch.
2. Message enabled in EEPROM option word #2 (refer to Diagnostic Parameters - BS09)
FAILURE CONDITION(S)
1. Brake Switch indicates brake not applied (from PCM data) for 5 seconds.
ACTION TAKEN
Display "APPLY BRAKE TO SHIFT" message on the DIC.
DIAGNOSIS
Refer to POWERTRAIN MANAGEMENT, for testing and diagnosis of the PCM Brake Switch input and Transaxle Range switch. Powertrain Management
NOTE:
The "APPLY BRAKE TO SHIFT" message can be cancelled by pressing the "OFF" and "COOLER" buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. Once the message is cancelled, it can be brought back with the same procedure.
