P064
Cruise Control Circuit:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Code P064 is designed to set when the vehicle speed is increasing at an extremely rapid rate (wheelspin). It is a protective measure to disable the cruise control when the vehicle suddenly accelerates for example, when traveling on icy roads.
TEST CONDITIONS
Test continuously.
FAILURE CONDITIONS
1. Cruise control engaged.
2. Vehicle speed increases more than 16 mph in 1 second.
ACTION TAKEN
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) disengages cruise control.
DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS
^ Code P064 sets when the vehicle speed increases greater than 16 mph in one second with the cruise engaged.
^ If code P064 is set, cruise control will disengage.
^ Most occurrences of code P064 are caused by wheelspin due to icy wet or slippery conditions.
^ If code PO64 is found and no other cruise control faults exists, clear codes and road test vehicle.
^ If code P075 is also set, look for sources of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), such as Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) wires run along side spark plug wires or high power transmitters (like mobile radios) operating in the vicinity.
