CODE S044 LIFT/DIVE SIGNAL FAULT

TEST CONDITIONS:
The RSS control module monitors the lift/dive signal which is pulled low then high by the PCM after vehicle crank.

FAULT CONDITIONS:
If the RSS control module does not see the low to high transition within 20 seconds after key on, it sets a lift/dive signal error.

ACTION TAKEN:
Set code S044, disable lift/dive function, and retest every 4 minutes.

DESCRIPTION:
For 1 to 31 seconds after vehicle crank, the RSS control module monitors the lift/dive signal. If no signal is detected, this error is activated. Recovery from this fault condition is attempted once every four minutes until successful. The lift signal is calculated in the PCM and is based on throttle position, vehicle speed, and transmission gear. The dive signal, also calculated in the PCM, is based on rate of change of vehicle speed.

NOTES ON FAULT TREE:
[1] Refer to notes on intermittents.
[2] An intermittent short to ground or an open on circuit 1490 may cause a random firm/soft ride condition.
[3] Refer to page clearing codes.

NOTES ON INTERMITTENTS:
The following conditions may cause code S044 to set intermittently:
^ PCM disconnected and ignition is keyed on
^ Engine is started while driving PROM in PCM not properly seated.

IMPORTANT:
^ WHEN ALL DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIRS ARE COMPLETE, CLEAR CODES AND VERIFY OPERATION.
