Subject:
Speaker "Pop" Noise in Center Front Speaker (Active Audio System Only) when Power Door Locks are Activated (Splice Capacitor)
Models:
1994 Cadillac Concours, DeVille
Condition
Some owners may comment that a "pop" noise occurs in the center front speaker when the power door switch is used, either locking or unlocking the door locks. This may also occur when the vehicle is shifted into drive which also activates the door locks.
Correction
The following service procedure has been developed to correct this condition:
1. Remove all door panels (see Section 10-6 of the Service Manual).
2. Locate and disconnect 2-way connectors on power door lock motors.
3. Remove black tape from harness, exposing gray (circuit 295) and tan (circuit 294 or 694) wires to allow for splicing. Refer to 8A-130-4.
4. Splice .33 microfarad 50 V capacitor across gray and tan wires (one per door lock motor) using splice clip which can be found in terminal repair kit (J 38125). Follow procedure for "splicing copper wire using clips" in the Service Manual.
Note:
The recommended capacitors can be obtained from local electronics equipment supplier.
5. Apply tape to spliced area and reconnect power door lock motor connectors.
6. Reinstall door panels.
Note: This procedure must be used on all doors.
