Equalizer Beam Center Link Replacement

EN-45059 - Angle Meter
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools Rear Suspension.
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
3. Remove and DISCARD the exhaust front pipe to exhaust rear muffler nuts (2, 3).
4. Remove the rear exhaust pipe (1) from the flange.
5. DISCARD the flange gasket.
Note: There may be additional attachment points, depending on the powertrain in the vehicle.
6. Loosen the rear exhaust muffler from the suspension points (1, 2, 3).
7. Lower and support the exhaust as required.
8. Remove the 3 rivets (1) from the equalizer beam center link heat shield (2).
9. Remove and DISCARD the right equalizer beam link inner bolt and nut (1) from the equalizer beam center link (2).
10. Lower and support the equalizer beam link as required.
11. Remove and DISCARD the left equalizer beam link inner bolt and nut (1) from the equalizer beam center link (2).
12. Lower and support the equalizer beam link as required.
Note: Remember the correct installation position.
13. Push down rear muffler and remove and discard the equalizer beam center link bolt and nut (1) from the equalizer beam center link (2).
14. Remove the equalizer beam center link (2) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the equalizer beam center link to the vehicle.
2. Using the lift table, raise the axle to the proper trim height specification by measuring the vertical distance (a) between the center of the wheel hub (2) and top of the wheel opening (1).
Dimension (a): 385 mm (15.16 in)
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
Note: Remember the correct installation position from the removal.
3. Push down rear muffler and install the NEW equalizer beam center link bolt and nut (1) to equalizer beam center link (2) and tighten a first pass to 70 Nm (52 lb ft).
Warning: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Warning Torque-to-Yield Fastener Warning.
4. Tighten the NEW equalizer beam center link bolt and nut a final pass to an additional 120 - 135 degrees, using the EN-45059 - meter.
5. Remove the support from equalizer beam link.
Warning: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Warning Torque-to-Yield Fastener Warning.
6. Install the left NEW left equalizer beam link inner bolt and nut (2) to the equalizer beam center link (1) and tighten a first pass to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).
7. Tighten the NEW left equalizer beam link inner bolt and nut a final pass to an additional 60 degrees, using the EN-45059 - meter.
8. Remove the support from equalizer beam link.
9. Install the NEW right equalizer beam link inner bolt and nut (2) to the equalizer beam center link (1) and tighten a first pass to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).
Warning: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Warning Torque-to-Yield Fastener Warning.
10. Tighten the NEW right equalizer beam link inner bolt and nut a final pass to an additional 60 degrees, using the EN-45059 - meter.
11. Install the 3 rivets (1) to equalizer beam center link heat shield (2).
Note: There may be additional attachment points, depending on the powertrain in the vehicle.
12. Install the rear exhaust muffler to the suspension points (1, 2, 3).
13. Install the NEW flange gasket.
14. Install the rear exhaust pipe (1) to the flange.
15. Install NEW exhaust front pipe to exhaust rear muffler nuts (2, 3) and tighten to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).
16. Install the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
17. Lower the vehicle.
