Battery Cable: Service and Repair
Generator and Starter Cable Replacement
Remove Procedure
1. Remove the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
2. Unlock the retaining tab (2) on the battery fuse box cover.
3. Open the battery fuse box flap (1).
4. Unlock the retaining tab (3) and open the battery fuse box cover.
Note: Pull the battery fuse box housing. DO NOT pull the flap.
5. Open the battery fuse box cover (1)
6. Remove the battery positive to starter cable nut (2).
7. Remove the battery positive to starter cable (3) from the battery.
8. Remove the negative cable nut (1).
9. Remove the negative cable (2).
10. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
11. If equipped, remove the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement Service and Repair.
12. Remove the starter and generator positive cable nut (2) and the starter and generator positive cable (3).
13. Remove the starter nut (6) and the starter ground cable (5).
14. Unclip the starter and generator positive cable clip (1) from oil level indicator tube.
15. Unclip the 2 starter and generator positive cable retainers (4) from the transmission brackets.
16. Fold the generator cap (3) aside.
17. Remove the starter and generator positive cable retaining nut (2) and the starter and generator positive cable (1).
18. Remove the starter and generator positive cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the starter and generator positive cable to the vehicle.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
2. Install the generator positive cable (1) and the generator positive cable retaining nut (2) and tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb in).
3. Fold the generator cap (3) to the generator positive cable terminal.
4. Install the starter ground cable (5) and the starter nut (6) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
5. Install the starter and generator positive cable (3) and the starter and generator positive cable nut (2) and tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb in).
6. If equipped, install the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement Service and Repair.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Clip in the 2 starter and generator positive cable retainers (4) to the transmission brackets.
9. Clip in the starter and generator positive cable clip (1) to the oil level indicator tube.
10. Install the negative cable (2).
11. Install the negative cable nut (1) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
12. Install the battery positive to starter cable (3) to the battery.
13. Install and tighten the battery positive to starter cable nut (2).
14. Close the battery fuse box cover (1) and lock the retaining tabs (2, 3)
15. Install the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
