Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The head-up display switch is a multiplexed switch. The head-up display provides the head-up display switch with a low reference. The switch input to the head-up display is pulled low when a switch is activated. The head-up display switch is a momentary contact switch that connects a series of resistors in a resistor ladder format. The head-up display determines the switch pressed by the voltage drop across the resistors. Each switch state PAGE, UP, DOWN corresponds to a certain resistance value.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The ignition is in OFF, ACCESSORY or RUN position.

* The system voltage is between 9-16 V.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B3619 02

The head-up display detects that the head-up display switch signal circuit is less than 900 mV.

B3619 05

The head-up display detects that the head-up display switch signal circuit is greater than 4.3 V.

B3619 61

The head-up display detects that the head-up display switch sticks.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The head-up display ignores the head-up display switch inputs.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The DTC will become history if the head-up display no longer detects a malfunction.

Special Tools

J-33431-C - Instrument Panel Tester

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON.

2. Verify the scan tool Adjust Display Up Switch parameter toggles between Active and Inactive when the S27 Head-Up Display Up Switch is pressed and released.

If the scan tool parameter does not change properly
Refer to Circuit/System Testing.

If the scan tool parameter changes properly

3. Verify the scan tool Adjust Display Down Switch parameter toggles between Active and Inactive when the S27 Head-Up Display Down Switch is pressed and released.

If the scan tool parameter does not change properly
Refer to Circuit/System Testing.

If the scan tool parameter changes properly

4. Verify the scan tool Page Switch parameter toggles between Active and Inactive when the S27 Head-Up Display Page Switch is pressed and released.

If the scan tool parameter does not change properly
Refer to Circuit/System Testing.

If the scan tool parameter changes properly

5. All OK.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S27 Head-Up Display Switch.

2. Test for less than 30 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.

If 30 ohms or greater

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P29 Head-Up Display.

2. Test for less than 2 ohms in the low reference circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the P29 Head-Up Display.

If less than 30 ohms

3. Ignition ON, connect the J-33431-C - Instrument Panel Tester or a similar variable resistance tool between signal circuit terminal 6 and low reference terminal 1.

4. Verify the corresponding scan tool parameters change from Inactive to Active while creating the following resistance values:

* 604 ohms - Page Switch parameter

* 1624 ohms - Adjust Display Up Switch parameter

* 3534 ohms - Adjust Display Down Switch parameter

If one or two of the scan tool parameters do not respond properly
Replace the P29 Head-Up Display.

If all the scan tool parameters respond properly
Replace the P27 Head-Up Display Switch.

If all the scan tool parameters do not respond properly

5. Ignition OFF. Disconnect the X1 harness connector at the P29 Head-Up Display.

6. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 6 and ground.

If less than infinite resistance
Repair the short to ground on the circuit.

If infinite resistance

7. Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater
Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms

8. Ignition ON.

9. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground.

If 1 V or greater
Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

If less than 1 V

10. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the P29 Head-Up Display.

Component Testing

Static Test

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S27 Head-Up Display Switch.

2. Test for 8.8-9.3kohms between the signal terminal 6 and the low reference circuit terminal 1.

If not between 8.8-9.3kohms
Replace the S27 Head-Up Display Switch.

If between 8.8-9.3kohms

3. Test for 550-650ohms between the signal terminal 6 and the low reference circuit terminal 1 while pressing the Page switch.

If not between 550-650ohms
Replace the S27 Head-Up Display Switch.

If between 550-650ohms

4. Test for 1.5-1.7kohms between the signal terminal 6 and the low reference circuit terminal 1 while pressing the Up switch.

If not between 1.5-1.7kohms
Replace the S27 Head-Up Display Switch.

If between 1.5-1.7kohms

5. Test for 3.3-3.7kohms between the signal terminal 6 and the low reference circuit terminal 1 while pressing the Down switch.

If not between 3.3-3.7kohms
Replace the S27 Head-Up Display Switch.

If between 3.3-3.7kohms

6. All OK.
