SUBJECT
Service Action: Install Door Sill Trim Strips
MODEL
[NEW] E71 (X6 xDrive35i and X6 xDrive50i) with M Performance Package (option ZMX) Produced from March 2012 to May 2012
SITUATION
The door sill trim strips were not installed.
CORRECTION
Install the M Performance Package sill trim strips.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
[NEW] This Service Action involves E71 (X6 xDrive35i and X6 xDrive50i) vehicles which were produced from March 2012 to May 2012.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 620. If code number 620 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 620 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
PROCEDURE
Clean the metal surface of the front door sill.
1. Measure the distance from the bottom of the front door striker. The distance must be 402 mm (15.8 in). Transfer the distance to the bottom door sill and mark with a wax pencil, masking tape or suitable marker. The mark represents where the rear edge of the front sill trim strip will be installed. An alternate method is to measure from the bottom of the door striker, along the body panel, and mark the area where the rear edge of the sill trim strip will be installed. This measured distance is 663 mm.
2. Remove the self-adhesive backing from the front sill strip and align the rear edge of the sill strip with the mark made earlier. Then position the trim parallel to the door sill at a distance 4mm-4.5mm away from the door opening, as shown. Apply the trim and press firmly to secure.

3. Measure the distance from the bottom of the rear door striker. The distance must be 442 mm (17.4 in). Transfer the distance to the bottom door sill and mark with a wax pencil, masking tape or suitable marker. The mark represents where the rear edge of the rear sill trim strip will be installed. An alternate method is to measure from the bottom of the door striker, along the body panel, and mark the area where the rear edge of the sill trim strip will be installed. This measured distance is 668 mm.
4. Remove the self-adhesive backing from the rear sill strip and align the rear edge of the sill strip with the mark made earlier. Then position the trim parallel to the door sill at a distance 4mm-4.5mm away from the door opening, as shown. Apply the trim and press firmly to secure.
Repeat the same procedures for the opposite side, and clean off the markings made.
PARTS INFORMATION
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 620. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-395) and:
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 620 (2), printed on the label; and\
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
