51 24 350 Removing And Installing/Replacing Left Spindle Drive (Automatic Tailgate Activation)
WARNING:
- Danger of injury.
- Support rear lid in fully opened position with suitable apparatus.
- In the event of customer complaints:
- Rattling when opening and closing
- Drive not functioning
- Drive is blocked or sluggish
- No longer closes or opens
- Or if incorrect operation is suspected:
- Rear lid was closed with excessive exertion of force
- Bent, broken piston rod
- Broken ball head
- The compression spring must be secured against unintentional sudden release.
- Observe warning notices on the damper
- Electric spindle drive for rear lid is under mechanical spring bias.
- The component must be secured against falling down.
These repair instructions are based on the dismantling and installation of ball sockets with clamp.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Determine and note down opening height of automatic luggage compartment lid actuation
- Remove trim panel for rear roof pillar, left (C-pillar)
- Remove trim panel for rear roof pillar, left (D-pillar)
Version with load area net mounts:
Remove all load area net mounts (3).
Open protective cap (1).
Release screw (2) and remove dividing net mounts (3).
Installation note:
Pay attention to position specifications on rear side of dividing net mounts.
Release edge protection of headlining (3) between left D-pillar and right D-pillar. Unclamp clamp (2).
Lower headlining (1) in area of D-pillar by 7 cm.
Unclip wiring harness (1) from top to bottom at marked points.
Disconnect plug connection (1) at bottom.
Feed the rubber grommet (1) including wiring harness out.
Installation note:
Rubber hose with rubber grommet (1) of spindle drive (2) may not be damaged or missing. Install rubber grommet (1) correctly to prevent water penetration.
Unclip spindle drive (2) from ball sockets (1) and remove.
