Technical Service

SUBJECT
Driver's Door Mirror Adjustment Range Not Sufficient

MODEL
E84

F30

Produced from October 31, 2011 without option code 430 (automatic anti-glare)

SITUATION
The driver's door mirror inward travel is not sufficient.

CAUSE
The mirror glass carrier inward bump stop is too high and limits the inward travel.

PROCEDURE
Remove the driver's door mirror glass. Refer to ISTA Repair Instruction 5116 026, "Replacing mirror glass."

1. Place the removed mirror glass on a clean work surface. Locate the upper/inner plastic bump stop (red circle).

2. Use an appropriate grinding tool or sander to fully remove the plastic bump stop (green circle). Use caution when removing the bump stop to prevent damage to the mirror glass and the mounting lugs. Reinstall the modified mirror and check for full inward movement.

Note:
Replacement of the mirror glass or mirror housing will not correct this issue, and must not be claimed as warranty.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty.

Labor operation code 51 16 026 is a Main labor operation. If you are already using a Main labor code for another repair; use the Plus code labor operation 5116 526 instead.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the "Search" button, and then enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.

Even though work time labor operation code 51 99 000 ends in "000," it is not considered a Main labor operation.
