SUBJECT
Front Door Window/Rear Side Window Reverses when Closing
MODEL
F12
SITUATION
When using the automatic window closing feature, intermittently the rear window automatically reverses.
CAUSE
Sensitivity of the anti-trap feature
PROCEDURE
1. Confirm the reversing of the windows by operating the automatic up feature of the window, and then perform diagnostics using ISTA/D and work through the corresponding test plans.
[NEW] Note: When the ISTA system message displays: Battery voltage only "XX.XX" V. Please connect charger. Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section. This documentation is not necessary when part of an approved Technical Service repair procedure; the battery charger is required to be attached before performing the Vehicle Test.
2. [NEW] Program the vehicle with ISTA/P 2.48.0 or higher.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to CenterNet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
3. Reinitialize the windows (included in vehicle programming) with the soft top closed, and then open and close the windows at least 5 times. If windows operate correctly no further action is needed. It is recommended to leave the top open for 2 hours to confirm the repair.
Note: Vehicle must be on a level floor and not on the service lift.
4. If the window reversing still occurs with the rear window(s), check the production date of the window drive motor. An improved version will show a date of 22 02 2011 (February 22, 2011) or later. If the date is earlier, replace the drive motor with the improved version.
Note:Shown are the left and right rear window drive motor date codes (for example, 25 02 11).
5. Check the window adjustment using Repair Instruction 51 32 154 (front door window) and Repair Instruction 51 37 154 (rear side window).
Note:If a new window drive motor was installed it must be reinitialized.
6. If the fault still exists, use Repair Instruction 51 32 154 and reduce the retraction depth to the 7 mm minimum (spec is 8 mm +/- 1 mm).
7. If the fault still exists, use Repair Instructions 51 37 154 and increase the preload of the rear side window to the 35 mm maximum (spec is 34 mm +/- 1 mm).
8. Perform a water leak test to ensure the window adjustments have not created any leaks.
