SUBJECT
Head-up Display Shows Double Image on the Front Windshield.
MODEL
F30
Vehicles produced from November 30, 2011 with option ZTP (Technology Package)
SITUATION
The HUD (Head-up Display) image displayed on the drivers side windshield is out of focus (double image).
^ [NEW] The image can be out of focus vertically.
^ [NEW] The image can be out of focus horizontally.
^ [NEW] The picture shows both double images.
CAUSE
^ [NEW] Seat position (due to a short or tall driver)
^ Distortion in the front windshield in the display area of the HUD
CORRECTION
Do not replace the Head-up Display. This does not provide a solution for this situation.
1. [NEW] The vertical distortion can be improved by changing the seat position or rotating the display from the CID setting.
2. [NEW] When there is horizontal distortion in all seat positions, replace the front windshield as per ISTA Repair Instructions, "51 31 011 Replace windscreen."
3. [NEW] After removing the old windshield, but before bonding the new windshield in place, it is important to verify that the double image problem is corrected by temporarily dry fitting the windshield in place as shown in the picture.
