Removing and Installing/Replacing Oil-Coolant Heat Exchanger

11 44 000 Removing and installing/replacing oil-to-water heat exchanger (N54, N54T)





Warning!
Risk of scalding!
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.






Important!
You must protect the alternator against contamination before carrying out any work on the oil or cooling circuit.
A residual amount of coolant emerges when the hoses are detached. A residual amount of oil emerges when the oil-coolant heat exchanger is released. Have a cleaning cloth ready.
Cover alternator with suitable apparatus.






Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Drain coolant
^ Remove fan cowl





Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 11 42 3AZ.

Do not detach engine oil pipe from oil--to water heat exchanger in downward direction.

Installation note:
Replace O-rings.





Release bolts (1) on oil-coolant heat exchanger.

Remove oil-coolant heat exchanger towards front.

Installation note:
Replace seal.

Reassemble car and set in horizontal position.





Vent cooling system and check for water leaks.

Start engine and run at idle until oil pressure warning lamp goes out.

Turn off engine.

Wait approx. 5 minutes and check oil level.

Top up engine oil if necessary.
