64 11 205 Removing And Installing/Replacing Heating Unit (N54)

Special tools required:







WARNING:
Danger of injury.
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure.
Follow safety instructions for handling R134a refrigerant.
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant fluid.
Follow safety instructions for handling refrigerant oil.

Follow instructions for working on cooling system.







IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage.
Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.
Follow instructions for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.
If air conditioning system is opened for more than 24 hours: Replace desiccant insert for air conditioning.







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Draw off refrigerant from air conditioning
- Remove support for dashboard







Recycling
Coolant emerges when coolant lines are detached. Have a suitable collecting vessel ready.
Catch and dispose of escaping coolant.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.







IMPORTANT: Carefully blow through aluminium twin pipe (on heat exchanger) to remove remaining coolant from heater element.







Release hose clamps (1) and detach coolant hoses (2).
Release screws (3) and detach refrigerant lines (4) in direction of arrow.
Tightening torque 64 53 2AZ.

Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.

Installation note:
Make sure bulkhead grommet is correctly seated.







Remove heating unit (1) in direction of arrow.

Installation note:
If necessary, replace gasket (2) and gaskets between heating unit (1) and bulkhead.
Make sure condensate drain grommet (3) is correctly seated in mount.
Make sure heating unit (1) is correctly seated in condensate drain grommet (3).







After installation:
- Evacuate and fill air conditioning.
- Vent cooling system and check on watertightness.
