Power Steering Fluid Cooler: Service and Repair

17 11 370 Removing and installing/replacing cooling loop for hydraulic steering (N55)

Special tools required:





Warning!
Risk of scalding!
Only perform this repair work after engine has cooled down.





Important!

When performing repair work on the oil, coolant or fuel circuit, you must protect the alternator against contamination.

Cover alternator with suitable materials.

Failure to comply with this procedure may result in an alternator malfunction.





Necessary preliminary work:
^ Remove charge air cooler.
^ Remove fan cowl.





Release screws.

Remove cover (1).





Unclip module carrier holder (1) on left.

Picture shows the right side, the procedure for the left side is identical.

Feed out module carrier on left and remove.





Press lines (1) in direction of cooling loop (2). Pull locking ring towards rear and keep pressed.

Detach lines (1) from cooling loop (2).

If necessary, use special tool 17 0 030.

Important!
Catch and dispose of emerging oil.





For purposes of clarity, radiator air duct is removed in the illustration.

Release screws and detach side holder (1).

Tightening torque 17 10 1AZ.

Feed out cooling loop (2) towards bottom and remove.





Reassemble the vehicle.

After completing this repair work, check oil level in oil reservoir of hydraulic steering.
