Replacing Front Muffler
18 12 046 Replacing front silencer (N55)Special tools required:
Warning!
Risk of burning!
This repair work may only be carried out on an exhaust system which has cooled down.
Support front silencer (front pipe) with special tool 31 2 220 and a suitable universal lifter.
Note:
If the separation point is not marked by a punch mark in the pipe, determine the separation point by means of the pipe length on the new front silencer (front pipe).
Carry over separation point to faulty front silencer (front pipe) and mark out.
Secure front silencer (front pipe) against falling off.
Cut through exhaust pipes at marked point with a suitable tool.
Release clamp (1).
Tightening torque 18 31 1AZ.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 18 20 2AZ.
Lower and remove front silencer (front pipe) with assistance of a second person.
Installation Note:
Install, adjust new front silencer (front pipe) and connect with clamp.
Center clamp and tighten down.
Tightening torque 18 31 3AZ.
Note:
Check rubber mount for damage.
Replace damaged rubber mount.
Check exhaust system for leak tightness.
