51 31 200 Removing And Installing Rear Window

Special tools required:







IMPORTANT:
- The "Instructions on window bonding" serve as the basis for this repair instruction and must be observed without fail.
- When reusing the rear window:
- Avoid damaging lines for rear window heating/aerial.

NOTE: Removal is performed with Roll Out 2000. Only use an oscillating blade when replacing the windscreen.







Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove rear window wiper motor







Disconnect connector (1) on wave trap (2) on left/right and secure cable with adhesive tape to rear window.
Disconnect connector (4) on aerial amplifier (3) and secure cable with adhesive tape to rear window.







IMPORTANT: Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Push wire starter from Roll Out 2000 at line (1) through adhesive bead.







Slide protective cover (3) between rear window frame and body and secure with adhesive tape.
Attach fabric adhesive tape (5) at bottom between rear window and rear window frame.

Only replace:
Rear window is cut out with two different lengths of blade (risk of damage).
(A) Blade length 24 mm at top
(B) Blade length 45 mm at side
(C) Blade length 24 mm at bottom

NOTE: First, cuts are made at top (A) and bottom (C).







Only replace:
Mount U shape blade (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Department) on tool.
Regrind blade with a grinding stone while machine is running (new blades also).
Carefully insert blade between body aperture and rear window.
Guide web of knife parallel to rear window.
Cut through adhesive bead as closely as possible to rear window.

IMPORTANT: Carefully cut in area of electric connections (risk of damage).







Fitting spacer buffers (spacers):

NOTE: Completely remove remnants of removed spacer buffers and maintain installation location exactly.


All spacer buffers are located within the adhesive bead. Mount as shown.
1 = 2x dual locks (part number 7 164 933*)
2 = 4x semicircular spacer buffers, form A (part number 1 925 433*)
3 = 4x spacer buffers (part number 2 996 980*)

Overview of rear window bonding (F25):












1 = bead joint
A tolerance band is printed on the ceramic (two dashed lines) that marks the position of the adhesive bead. Place the adhesive bead centrally on the tolerance band.
Attach special tool 51 3 010 twice to tool trolley. Moisten suction surfaces and secure rear window from outside.
If reusing the previous rear window, remove residual adhesive down to 0.5 mm.
Apply primer 2 mm beyond the tolerance band on each side.
The almost vertical part of the adhesive bead must be facing the window edge.
Spread bead joint (4) with special tool 00 9 322.







Installation note:
Carefully working on rear window with special tool 51 3 010:
- install at top
- Align sides evenly
- install at bottom at distance (A) and press down
- secure in this position with yellow plastic adhesive tapes

Distance (A) of rear window at bottom to rear window frame:
A = 5 mm

Replacement
Modify rubber grommet of wiper motor at rear window.
