SITUATION

CAUSE
Premature failure in the front headlight lens cover material, caused by damaged hood bump stops or old design hood sealing.


PROCEDURE

1. Inspect the affected headlight for any road hazard or outside influence. A diagnosis test plan is not necessary for visual or mechanical defects. Refer to for details on claim submission.








2. Replace only the headlamp on the defective side. Follow ISTA Repair Instruction REP 63 12 010, "Removing and installing or replacing headlight."

To order the correct headlights, it should be ordered by VIN.

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty.





Replacing One Side

Labor operation codes 63 12 004, 6312 011 and 63 12 016 are Main labor operations.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the applicable plus code labor operation instead: 63 12 505, 6312 521 or 63 12 528.

Labor operation codes 63 12 014, 6312 013 and 63 12 018 are Main labor operations.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the applicable plus code labor operation instead: 63 12 509, 6312 523 or 63 12 530.

Replacing Both Sides

Labor operation codes 63 12 022, 6312 027 and 63 12 030 are Main labor operations.

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the applicable plus code labor operation instead: 63 12 804, 6312 827 or 63 12 830.

Replacing Both Hood Buffer Stop Pads

Replacing Both Hood Seals

If both repair procedures above are required, claim labor operation 51 99 000 one time for a total of 4 FRUs.

Even though work time labor operation code 51 99 000 ends in "000," it is not considered a Main labor operation.

Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the "Search" button, and then enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field.
