SUBJECT
Front Seat Base Makes Creaking Noise
MODEL
F25
Vehicles produced to April 2012
SITUATION
A noise may be heard from the left or right front seat base when driving on rough roads.
CAUSE
The main pivot bolts securing the seat height levers lack sufficient grease.
PROCEDURE
Confirm the location of the noise by test driving on a rough road, and then proceed to the next step.
Raise the vehicle with the service lift to a comfortable working height (chest-high) to help facilitate the repair.
The following pictures and procedure shown are for the drivers seat. However, the repair procedure is to be performed to both front seats.
1. Move the seat to the uppermost and forwardmost position.
2. Remove the decorative trim from the seat track and locate the front and rear pivot bolts. Remove one front hex nut and remove the torx head shoulder bolt. For safety reasons, only remove one bolt at a time. Apply the lubricating spray to both the bolt shoulder and the bolt opening. Reinstall the bolt.
Caution:
The bolt must be properly keyed into the hex opening of the seat base. This will prevent the bolt from turning when tightening torque is applied. Repeat the same procedure to the other side front bolt.
3. Torque both front nuts to 20 Nm +/- 2.
4. Move the seat fully rearward to access the securing nut for the rear torx bolts. Perform this procedure from the rear door opening. Remove one hex nut (inboard) and remove the torx bolt. Apply the lubricating spray to the bolt shoulder and the bolt opening, and then reinstall the bolt.
Caution:
The bolt must be properly keyed into the hex opening of the seat base. This will prevent the bolt from turning when tightening torque is applied. Repeat the same procedure to the other side rear bolt.
5. Torque both rear nuts to 40Nm +/- 4. Return the seat to the original position and reinstall the decorative trim. Quality check the repair to confirm the creaking noise is gone.
