8HP Transmission - Noise from Transmission Bell Housing Area
MODEL
F25 (X3 xDrive28i) with N52T engine
SITUATION
The customer complains that a jingling or whirring noise can be heard coming from the transmission area. The noise can be very subtle at times, but is reproducible only when the vehicle is at operating temperature; the transmission in drive; and the vehicle is at a standstill.
CAUSE
Sound insulation caps are missing from the transmission bell housing.
PROCEDURE
Install the sound insulation caps P/N 24 14 7 567 139 into the bottom hole (1) and P/N 24 14 7 603 258 into the lower right hole (2) of the transmission bell housing. Verify the noise has diminished.
