31 12 138 Replacing Rubber Mounts On Both Trailing Links

Special tools required:







IMPORTANT:
Due to the dynamic handling characteristics, the rubber mounts of both trailing links must always be replaced.
Due to the aluminium design of the trailing link, the rubber mounts may only be replaced once.
The rubber mount replacement must be identified with a centre punch in area (A).
Trailing links with existing punch marks in area (A) must be replaced. Reuse of the rubber mount is prohibited.







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Check ball joint of trailing link for damage while installed, if necessary replace trailing link.
- Remove both trailing links.







NOTE:
The special tool 31 5 271 is used to remove and insert the rubber mount.







IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage.
Special tool 31 5 271 must be exactly flush with rubber mount bush.

Press rubber mount out of trailing link using special tools 31 5 271 and 31 5 272.







Attach mounting 31 5 273 to special tool 33 4 450.
Insert rubber mount (1) into special tool and pull together.







IMPORTANT:
Align rubber mount as shown using slot for arrow (P). The deviation must not exceed ± 5±.
A = 30°±5±

NOTE: Keep rubber mount and bush in tension strut clean and free from grease.







Insert rubber mount (1) with special tools 31 5 271 and 31 5 272 until special tool 31 5 273 comes into contact with the trailing link.
Remove special tools 33 4 450 and 31 5 273.
Insert rubber mount (1) to limit position.







Installation note:
Protrusion (A) equally large.







IMPORTANT: Identify replacement of trailing link rubber mount using punch mark in area (A).
