54 37 025 Replacing Rear Roof Shell Seal

Special tools required:







IMPORTANT:
- Sealing systems with different production dates are installed.
- Mixed installation is not permitted.
- Distinguishing features, sealing system.







Installation:
- Screws with sealing compound must be replaced and must not be reused
- Thread of nut must be cleaned beforehand







New parts required:
- Seal
- Butyl rope dia. 4 mm







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove roof lining
- Move into assembly position
- Bring vehicle to garage/workshop temperature







Release screws (1).

Release screw (2) with special tool 00 4 430 .

Tightening torque: 54 37 01AZ .

Pull seal off roof shell at rear.







On-the-job safety:
- Comply with the relevant safety regulations







Remove remnants of adhesive from roof shell.

Clean adhesive area with isohexane.

Air drying time: ≥ 1 minute

IMPORTANT:
- Adhesive area must be dry and free from dust and grease.
- Once it has been cleaned, do not touch the adhesive area with bare hands.

Use 4 mm dia. butyl bead (see BMW Parts Department).







Overview of butyl bead laying on roof shell, front:
1. Apply butyl bead with dia. 4 mm ±1 mm with a length of at least 40 mm in sheet metal bead.
2. Apply butyl bead with dia. 4 mm ±1 mm above push pin bores.
3. Apply butyl bead with dia. 4 mm ±1 mm with a length of 70 mm in centre of flange to roof shell.







Installation:
Press seal with trim strip (1) firmly onto roof shell.

Align screw fastening point to thread in roof shell.







Installation:
Press seal onto butyl bead

Pop in seal in marked area (1).







Installation:
For optimum securing of seal (2), press down entire upper area with special tool 51 0 300 .

If necessary, use plastic hammer and impact protection.







Check retraction depth of windows and adjust if necessary.

Carry out leak test .
