Special tools required:
- 00 9 322
- 51 0 010
- 51 3 010

IMPORTANT:
"Instructions on window bonding" serve as the basis for this repair instruction and must be observed without fail.
Cover front side walls with protective covers.

NOTE: Removal is performed with Roll Out 2000. Only use an oscillating blade when replacing the windscreen.

Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove inside mirror
- Remove panels for roof pillar at front
- Remove cover for cowl panel
- Remove roof trim strips

Replacement:
- Replace upper windscreen cover
- If necessary, replace solar rain/light sensor and condensation sensor
- If necessary, replace optical element for solar rain/light sensor
- Tape off body aperture all round with fabric adhesive tape

Disconnect plug connections (1) on rain/light sensor and condensation sensor.

IMPORTANT: Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (1).

Push wire starter (2) from Roll Out 2000 through adhesive bead.

Replacement only:
Have U-shape knife with 24 mm, 36 mm and 45 mm blade lengths (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Department) ready.

Fit respective knife with required blade length:
24 mm = Upper and side areas and lower windscreen corners
36 mm = Lower area
45 mm = Second radius between lower area and windscreen corner
Regrind blade with a grindstone while machine is running (new blades also).
Carefully insert blade between body aperture and windscreen.
Guide handle of knife parallel to windscreen.
Cut through adhesive bead as closely as possible to windscreen.

NOTE: When cutting is carried out at the bottom in the event of replacement, the engine compartment lid must be in the service position.

Move engine compartment lid into service position. Cut through windscreen adhesive bead at bottom. Lift out windscreen with special tools 51 3 010. Pull off adhesive tapes all round.

Fitting flexible buffers:

IMPORTANT:
To avoid windscreen breakage and wind noises:
Completely remove remnants of removed flexible buffers and maintain installation location exactly.
Following spacer buffers are fitted.
11x spacer buffer (5x5x20)
Installation position of spacer buffers (1) is determined on body side with markings (arrows) on A-pillar (2) and on cross-member (3).

Installation note:
If necessary, replace faulty upper windscreen cover.
If necessary, replace resilient sealing tape for VIN number inspection glass.

Replacement on version with HUD:
Observe separate information in Instructions on window bonding.

Replace expanding foam tape if necessary:

Carefully clean adhesion area for expanding foam tape (1) on windscreen (2) with cleaning agent R2.

Overview of windscreen bonding:

Attach special tool 51 3 010 twice to tool trolley. Moisten suction surfaces and tension windscreen from outside.
If reusing removed windscreen, remove residual adhesive down to 0.5 mm.
New cover at top must be fitted before adhesive is applied.
Press down expanding foam tape (7) with hand roller.
Virtually vertical part (B) of adhesive bead must be positioned to rubber frame (6) and windscreen edge (5).
Spread bead joint with special tool. 00 9 322

Detail view "X"

IMPORTANT: Optimised adhesive bead progression (2) deviating from marking screen print recesses (1) on windscreen.

Spacing, adhesive bead progression (2) to windscreen edge:
≥ 5,5 mm = Primer coat offset outwards by 5.5 mm to adhesive bead progression (2) with width 19 mm
< 5,5 mm = Primer coat coinciding with outer edge of adhesive bead progression (2) with width 17 mm
3 = expanding foam tape

NOTE: Adhesive area for plastic adhesive tapes (1) must be free from grease and dust.

Stick two pieces of yellow plastic adhesive tapes (1) onto roof with spacing (A) from outer corners.
Length: 400 mm
A = 250 mm

Using special tool 51 3 010, carefully:
- Position windscreen at top
- Align sides evenly
- Insert at bottom and press down
- Press windscreen upwards until seal is uniformly contacting roof
- Secure windscreen in this position with the two yellow plastic adhesive tapes

Installation note:
The required gap dimension from the windscreen edge to the body aperture is:
- Top ± 7 mm
- Side ± 5 mm

Adjusting pre-tension on windscreen:

In order to avoid wind noises, windscreen (1) must be lower than roof outer skin (2).
Position special tool 51 0 010 in middle of vehicle depending on dimension (A) and check underprotrusion of windscreen (1).
A = 4 mm without HUD
A = 3.5 mm with HUD
A = 3 mm with HUD and acoustics
X = measurement stages 1 ... 4 mm

Version with HUD:

Installation note:
Check HUD again and if necessary adjust.

Version with Lane Departure Warning:
Carry out calibration of camera for lane departure warning via BMW diagnosis system:
