24 00 034 Removing And Installing Automatic Transmission (GA8HP70Z) N63

Special tools required:

WARNING: High-voltage system - danger to life.

NOTE: Observe safety information for handling hybrid cars.

IMPORTANT:
- Do not let skin come in contact with transmission oil and do not inhale transmission oil vapors.
- Wear protective gloves.
- Ensure adequate ventilation

IMPORTANT:
After completing work:
Adjusting the rotor position sensor is required.
Check transmission oil level.
Use only the approved transmission oil.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission.

NOTE: Observe notes on unlocking and disconnecting different types of connectors in hybrid cars.

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect high-voltage system from power
- Clamp off battery.
- Remove both intake silencer housings.
- Secure engine in installation position.
- Remove underbody protection at front and rear.
- Remove exhaust system.

Unfasten ground strap (1).
Remove retaining plates (2).

Release screw (2).
Disconnect cable (1).

Installation note:
- Release screw (2).
- Bring release lever (3) into contact with selector shaft by pressing slightly. Distance B=0 mm.
- Adjust cable by means of holder until distance A=≥ 1 mm is obtained.
- Tighten screw (2).

Release screws (1).
Remove cover (2).
Tightening torque, 24 00 1AZ.

When unflanging the gearbox, pay attention to installation position of rubber connectors (1).

Release screws (1).
Take off holder (2).
Release screw (3) and remove crankshaft sensor.
Detach line from bracket (4).
Disconnect connector (5).

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Unfasten plug connection (2) and disconnect.
Release screws (3) and remove rotor position sensor.
Removal of the rotor position sensor is absolutely necessary (risk of damage to the rotor during transmission removal)

Release screws (1).
Remove high voltage fuse (2).

Disconnect connector (1).

- Unlock and disconnect connector (1) by turning.
- Do not touch pins.
- Release cable from brackets.
- Insert special tool 24 2 390 in sealing cup.

Repair work is described in Notes on mechatronics

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with important note.

Release screw (1).
Undo hydraulic line and holder.

Release screw (1).
Disconnect hydraulic lines (2) to transmission oil cooler.

Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Keep to installation sequence.

Crank engine at vibration damper in direction of rotation until screw (1) is visible in recess.
Undo all 6 bolts on torque converter. Tightening torque, 24 40 1AZ.

Prepare special tool (1) 24 4 161 with shaped element (2) 24 4 166 as pictured.

Insert special tool 24 4 160 into opening of transmission housing and clamp gently with screw (1).
Raise by turning screw (2) and clamp down.
Tighten screw (1).

Release screw (1) on left and right of axle.
Remove cover plate (2) on left and right of axle.
Remove bolt (3) on left and right of axle.
Tightening torque 31 10 1AZ.

Screw on special tool 11 8 910.

Adjust distance (1) between cross bar and facing using nuts (2).
Nuts (2) must be screwed down in opposite direction after distance has been adjusted.

IMPORTANT:
Distance:
N63 38 mm

Supporting transmission:
Support transmission with special tools 23 4 050,00 2 030.
Secure transmission to mounting with tensioning strap (1).
Repair work is are described in Gearbox holder.
After completion of work, check transmission fluid level.

Release screws (1) and (2).
Remove transmission cross member.
Tightening torque, 22 32 3/4AZ.

- Remove propeller shaft
- IMPORTANT:
Bending the propeller shaft by an excessive angle can cause premature damage to the joint/propeller shaft.

- Support engine with lifter when removing transmission.

Lower transmission.
Release screws.
Tightening torque 24 00 1AZ.
Screw guide pins 24 0 320 for guiding gearbox into two opposite screw points while dismantling.
Lift up gearbox into removal position again after opening gearbox screws until cross member makes full contact with body.
Then lower gearbox by approx.15 mm (cross member to tunnel).
In this position, the gearbox is pulled off the gearbox input shaft.

After the transmission removal:
Install a Torx screw (2) to prevent the heat shield (1) from sliding down.

Installation note:
Check that fitting sleeves (1) are correctly seated.
Replace damaged fitting sleeves.
Screw in guide pins (2) 24 0 320 for guide of gearbox during installation.
Fit gearbox and secure with two screws.
Unscrew guide pins (2) and flange-mount gearbox on engine.
Reassemble the vehicle.

Installation note:
Rotate torque converter until bore hole in torque converter is flush with bore hole in drive plate.
Flange automatic transmission to engine.
