Hybrid Electrical - EME Connection Sealing

Electric Motor Electronics (EME) Connection Sealing

MODEL
F04 (ActiveHybrid 7)

SITUATION

Every time the high-voltage electrical connector on the Electric Motor Electronics (EME) is removed, which leads to the AC Compressor, it must be properly sealed to prevent water ingress after it is reinstalled.

This connector, X14741, is located at the rear of the EME.

If this sealing has been compromised, a Hybrid Malfunction Check Control Message may be illuminated, and one or more of the following fault codes may be set in the Battery Control Electronics (SME):

21F060 - Internal isolation fault

21F064 - External isolation fault

21F184 - Insulation Resistance under threshold

CAUSE

Moisture in one of the EME connectors.

CORRECTION

Properly seal the EME connector.

PROCEDURE

^ Vehicle test

Note:
When the ISTA system message displays:

Battery voltage only "XX.XX" V. Please connect charger.

Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section.

^ Before following the attached procedure, de-energize the high-voltage system by removing the safety disconnect per Repair Instruction REP 61 25 900.

NOTE:
Only technicians who have completed ST920 - BMW ActiveHybrid Technology can work on hybrid vehicles.
