32 41 037 Removing and Installing/Replacing Power Steering Pump For Power Steering Gear With Dynamic Drive

32 41 037 Removing and installing/replacing power steering pump for power steering gear with Dynamic Drive (N54)

Note:
When replacing power steering pump:

Fluid reservoir must be replaced in event of metal abrasion, sluggish pump shaft or increased wear!

The filter integrated in the fluid reservoir can only absorb a limited amount of foreign particles. If the filter clogs, the hydraulic system can no longer be sufficiently protected.

Metal abrasion is perceived in the fluid reservoir as metallically glittering hydraulic fluid.

It is only necessary to replace the fluid reservoir because of leaks (e.g. at hose connections) only in the event of the unavoidably high ingress of dirt.

Warning!
Danger of poisoning if oil is ingested/absorbed through the skin!

Risk of injury if oil comes into contact with eyes and skin!

Important!
Adhere to the utmost cleanliness. Do not allow any dirt to enter the hydraulic system.
Seal off hydraulic lines with plugs.

Important!
Aluminium screws/bolts must be replaced each time they are released.
Aluminium screws/bolts are permitted with and without colour coding (blue).
For reliable identification:
Aluminium screws/bolts are not magnetic.
Jointing torque and angle of rotation must be observed without fail (risk of damage)!

Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Draw off and dispose of hydraulic fluid from fluid reservoir
^ Remove charge-air duct
^ Remove power steering pump belt pulley
^ Remove power steering gear

Release hose clamp (3) and detach suction line from power steering pump.

Release screw (2) and detach expansion hose from power steering pump.

Tightening torque 32 41 5AZ.

Release screws (1) and detach expansion hose from power steering pump.

Tightening torque 32 41 13AZ.

Release screws (4). Lay holder with expansion hose to one side.

Tightening torque 32 41 14AZ.

Installation:
Replace hose clamp (3).

Align suction line by way of "P" marking to connection on power steering pump.

Replace all sealing rings.

Make sure hydraulic lines are laid without tension and with sufficient spacing to adjoining components.

Unlock plug connections (1) and (3) and disconnect.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 32 41 9AZ.

Installation:
Replace aluminium screws.

Observe screwing sequence!

Release screws (1) and remove power steering pump in downward direction.

Tightening torque 32 41 9AZ.

Installation:
Replace aluminium screws.

Observe screwing sequence!

Screwing sequence:
1. Secure power steering pump with screws
2. Tighten side screw to 2 Nm
3. Tighten front screws to 2 Nm
4. Tighten down front screws to jointing torque and angle of rotation
Tightening torque 32 41 9AZ.
5. Release screw at side and check screw fastening points for gap freedom
6. Tighten down side screws to jointing torque and angle of rotation
Tightening torque 32 41 9AZ.

After installation:
^ Carry out wheel/chassis alignment check
^ Fill and bleed hydraulic system
^ Check pipe connections for leaks
^ If necessary, carry out initial Dynamic Drive operation
