with option 639 (BMW Assist with Bluetooth) and without option 6VC (Combox controller)
SITUATION
During phone conversations using the vehicle's hands-free Bluetooth system, the person on the other end may complain that at times they cannot understand the person calling from the vehicle. Typically, this happens at speeds greater than 50 mph where there is significantly greater background noise (engine, road, wind, etc.).
CAUSE

[NEW] PROCEDURE
Duplicate the customer complaint by placing a hands-free telephone call. Perform diagnosis using ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application). Troubleshoot any faults that are related to the hands-free system first
Beginning in March 2011, improved microphones will be available. The improved microphones can be identified by inspecting the label on the microphone. The word "Mexico" will be visible on the label, as seen in the attachment.
Replace the microphone only with the improved part.
This measure only affects vehicles that do not have option 6VC, Combox control.
