Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair

18 40 040 Removing and installing, sealing/replacing exhaust manifold (N57)





Warning!
Scalding hazard!
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
^ Remove exhaust turbocharger

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 8AZ.








Unfasten hose clip (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 4AZ.

Unfasten banjo bolt (2).

Tightening torque 18 31 6AZ.

Replace sealing rings.

Important!
To ensure operational reliability, use stainless steel sealing washers.

Remove exhaust pressure pipe (3).

Unscrew nuts (4).

Tightening torque 18 31 7AZ.

Remove heat shields.

Release nuts along dashed line (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 3AZ.

Remove exhaust manifold (2) from cylinder head.

Installation:
Clean connection points.

Replace seals.

Reinstall reinforcement plates.








Important!
Manifold gaskets are graphite-coated on one side!

The graphite coating must be fitted on the manifold side.





Assemble engine.

Check function of DDE.
