51 71 215 Replacing Sealing On Left Or Right Rear Door
Follow repair instructions for bonded gaskets.
Necessary preliminary work:
- If applicable, remove the sealing on the rear door
- Remove cover on inside door window frame
- Release door stop from door post
- Bond the templates for the sealing on the inner door panel
IMPORTANT:
- After loosening the door stop, prevent the door from exceeding the maximum opening angle (danger of paint or body damage)
- Do not touch or contaminate the bonding surface
- Position the sealing without over-extension or compression
- The maximum slack of the sealing while positioning is 30 mm
- Always press the sealing on perpendicular to the bonding surface
- It is not the time of the contact pressure, but rather the level of pressure (approx. 10 ... 15 N/cm2 ) that is decisive.
- Sealing can only be pulled off and reused up to three times if it was pressed on lightly
- Separation of sealing after pressing destroys the adhesive layer.
Suspend sealing (1) with open lip pointing inwards over door.
Pull the protective film off around the colour coding (positioning aid).
Start the sealing (1) with colour coding on the front top of the window frame.
Glue sealing as follows:
- Note the bonding order below
- Pull the protective film off step-by-step and lightly press the sealing (1) onto the inner door panel
- Check the positioning of the sealing (1) and correct as needed until the positioning is OK.
- Press the sealing (1) on.
Bonding order:
1. Along the window frame to the beginning of the template
2. From the door post to the entry area
3. Remaining door area
Positioning the sealing:
Position the sealing along the templates:
Edge of the adhesive tape (2) is flush with the cutting edge of the template (3).
Final repair work:
- Pull off all templates
