SUBJECT
Service Action: Replace Transmission Selector Arm Bearing Shafts
MODEL
E92 (335i xDrive) with the N55 engine and manual transmission produced from 05/26/10 to 07/07/10
SITUATION
The installed selector arm bearing shafts may be too short. This may result in a harsh gear shifting complaint.
CORRECTION
Replace the bearing shafts for the transmission selector arm.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves 335i xDrive vehicles with the N55 engine and manual transmission which were produced from 05/26/2010 to 07/07/2010.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 574. If code number 574 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 574 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
PROCEDURE
The selector arm bearing shafts which have to be replaced are indicated by numbers 1 and 2 on the ETK parts drawing 25_0428 (Gearshift parts; manual transmission/4-wheel). The following preliminary operations have to be performed prior to selector arm bearing shafts replacement:
1. Remove the transfer case (REP 27 10 010).
2. Remove the shift lever (REP 25 11 000).
Follow Repair Instructions REP 25 11 211 (Replace selector arm shift lever mount) up to the point of removal of the selector arm.
Note: the selector arm does NOT have to be removed for the replacement of the bearing shafts.
Release the bearing shaft clips (1) and remove the shafts from the selector arm.
Before installation, grease the new bearing shafis with a small amount of grease (e.g. P/N BM83 23 0 392 297).
PARTS INFORMATION
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 574. After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD-92-380) and;
A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
B. Punch out code number 574. (2), printed on the label; and
C. Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
