72 11 080 Removing and installing/replacing left or right seatbelt assistant hand (from 09/07)

Special tools required:







When removing the seat-belt assistant hand, also note the interactive 3-D instructions. It does not replace but enhance the applicable repair instructions.

Necessary preliminary tasks:
The following steps must be performed if the belt extender extends, but it does not deliver the safety belt or loosing it.
- Check if the clamping bushes are installed in the vehicle on both sides.
Retrofit clamping bushes if necessary.







Remove the cover (1) from the slide rail.







Set the clamping bush (1) onto the slide rail with closures facing the vehicle exterior.

NOTE: Closures must always face the vehicle exterior.

Clamping bush (1) must snap audibly into place twice.







Mount the clamping bush (1) without gap to the carpet.







Open door.
Insert special tool 51 0 341 in rotary striker of door lock and close rotary striker manually.







Operate ignition (Terminal 15) to extend the seat belt extender.
For working area, see marked area.

NOTE:
Driver's side:
The seat-belt extender remains in the extended position for 1 minute. (If applicable, repeat procedure. Do not hold the seat-belt extender down with resistance)

Front passenger:
Apply a suitable load on the front passenger seat to keep the seat-belt extender in the extended position for 1 minute. (If applicable, repeat procedure. Do not hold the seat-belt extender down with resistance)







Insert the screwdriver in the last incline of the spring for the loss prevention element.







Pull the loss prevention element (1) back with the screwdriver until a gap appears between the bridge and the loss prevention.







Set the removal tool (1) that is included in the spare parts kit into the gap between the loss prevention element and bridge.
Let the loss prevention element slide back to the initial position with the screwdriver (2).







Remove the screwdriver.
Hold the removal tool (1) between the loss prevention element and bridge.







Pull seat-belt assistant hand (1) out of seatbelt extender (2).
Loss prevention element must pass through underneath bridge without damaging it.







Installation note:
Hold the rack while installing (latching) the seat-belt assistant hand to prevent damage to the rack and engine.
