64 52 521 Replacing A/C compressor (N54, N55)
Special tools required:
WARNING:
Danger of injury.
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure.
Follow safety instructions for handling R 134a refrigerant. Service Precautions
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant fluid.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage.
Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.
Read and comply with notes on replacing compressor. 64 52 ... Instructions For Compressor Replacement
Follow instructions for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.
If Air conditioning system is opened for more than 24 hours:
Replace desiccant insert for A/C system. 64 53 515 Replacing Desiccant Insert For Air Conditioning System
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Draw off A/C system 64 50 009 Drawing Off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a)
- Remove A/C compressor drive belt Service and Repair
- Remove charge-air duct 11 61 368 Removing and Installing/Replacing Rear Left Charge-Air Duct
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Release screws (2) and remove refrigerant line.
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ.
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.
IMPORTANT: Seal openings or lines on compressor with special tool 32 1 270 to prevent escape of media and fouling.
IMPORTANT: Secure compressor (1) against falling out.
Release screws (2) and remove compressor (2) by pulling upwards.
Tightening torque 64 52 3AZ.
Replacement:
Read and comply with notes on replacing compressor.
If necessary, release screws (1) and modify holder (2).
After installation:
- Evacuate and fill air conditioning system 64 50 009 Drawing Off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a)
- Assemble engine
