CBS Data In the Key

CBS Data in the Key

To facilitate service acceptance, the current CBS and vehicle data is stored in the vehicle key which was last used. This is read by the KeyReader during the service acceptance and is displayed in the Service Acceptance Module (SAM).

IMPORTANT!!
The key has current data written onto it at certain intervals during operation. As this process only occurs after a certain distance has been covered, the data stored in the key at service reception may differ slightly from the most up-to-date data stored in the vehicle.
If the service advisor is given a spare key with an outdated CBS status, this must be updated in the vehicle prior to service reception.

Note:
The current vehicle displays may differ from the key data up to a maximum of 10 km, as the key is only written on cyclically.

The procedure for writing on the key can also be activated manually in the vehicle. The following process should be observed:

Update key as follows:

- Switch off ignition
- Insert the key
- Set the ignition key to terminal R
- Press and hold down the central locking button
- Set the ignition key to terminal 15
- Release the central locking button
- The update lasts approximately 10 seconds, and a gong sounds when it is finished
- Remove the key (the key data is now up-to-date)

Important:
If the central locking button is pressed before "the ignition is set to terminal R" is displayed, fault code memory entries are stored on the key instead of the CBS data.
