Oil Cooler: Service and Repair




11 44 000 - Removing and installing/replacing oil-coolant heat exchanger (N54)





Warning!
Danger of scalding!
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.





Important!
You must protect the alternator against contamination before carrying out any work on the oil or coolant circuit.
A residual amount of coolant emerges when the hoses are detached. A residual amount of oil emerges when the oil-coolant heat exchanger is released. Have a cleaning cloth ready.
Cover alternator with suitable apparatus.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Drain coolant
- Remove fan cowl





Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 11 42 3AZ. Mechanical Specifications
Do not detach oil lines from oil-coolant heat exchanger in downward direction.

Installation Note:
Replace O-rings.





Release bolts (1) on oil-coolant heat exchanger.
Remove oil-coolant heat exchanger towards front.

Installation Note:
Replace seal.





Reassemble car and set in horizontal position.
Vent cooling system 17 00 039 Venting Cooling System and Checking For Water Leaks and check for water leaks.
Start engine and run at idle until oil pressure warning lamp goes out.
Stop engine.
Wait approx. 5 minutes and check engine oil level.
Top up engine oil if necessary.
