51 45 180 - Removing and installing trim for instrument panel, bottom left





Warning!
Read and comply with safety regulations [1][2]Safety Precautions and General Information for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical belt pretensioners.
Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove outer finisher 51 45 270 Removing and Installing or Replacing Outer Trim Cover on Lower Left Dashboard Trim Panel on instrument panel trim
- Remove decorative strip 51 16 221 Replacing A Clip-Mounted Trim (Decorative Strip on Instrument Panel Trim) on instrument panel trim
- Release instrument panel trim, middle 51 45 310 Removing and Installing (Replacing) Centre Trim For Instrument Panel (do not remove)
USA national version:
- Disconnect battery negative lead 61 20 900 Disconnecting and Connecting Battery Negative Lead





Note:
To facilitate removal, move driver's seat fully towards rear.





Release screws (1).
Unclip trim (2) downwards from catches (3).

Installation Note:
Catches (3) must not be damaged.





USA national version:
Release screws (1) on airbag module (2).
Tightening torque 72 12 07AZ 65 77 Airbag Modules.
Unlock associated plug connection 72 12 ... Unlocking/Locking Airbag Plug Connections and disconnect. Remove trim (3) from instrument panel.

Note:
Trim (3) removed for purposes of clarity.

Replacement:
- Modify airbag module 72 12 004 Removing and Installing/Replacing Airbag Module For Driver's Knee Protection (2)
