Fault description
The diagnostic function monitors camshaft position locking.

Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
The fault is recognized when the camshaft is not locked
during starting.
Potential problem source(s):
- Engine oil dirty, old or not to specification
- VANOS adjustment unit dirty
- VANOS adjustment unit defective
Terminal condition: none
Voltage condition:
- Onboard electrical system voltage between 9 V and 16 V
Temperature condition:
- None
Time condition:
- None
Other conditions:
- Engine ON

Condition for fault memory entry
The fault is logged immediately when it occurs during an
engine start.

Action in service
- Check engine oil, replace engine oil and filter as required
- Perform system test on VANOS solenoid valves
- Replace VANOS adjustment unit

- Non-starter in extreme cases
