64 52 523 Removing And Installing/Replacing Air Conditioning Compressor (Electric A/C Compressor)
Special tools required:
WARNING: High-voltage system - danger to life.
WARNING: Observe safety information for handling hybrid cars.
IMPORTANT: Before starting to work, disconnect high-voltage system from power.
WARNING:
Danger of injury.
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure.
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant fluid.
Read and comply with safety instructions:
- Handling R 134a (tetrafluorethane) refrigerant
- Handling refrigerant fluid
IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage.
Restart engine only when air conditioning system has been correctly filled.
Read and comply with notes on replacing compressor.
Follow instructions for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.
If air conditioning system is opened for more than 24 hours:
Replace desiccant insert for A/C system.
Necessary preliminary work:
- Drawing off, evacuating and filling the A/C system are not included in the time value given for this work operation
- Remove cross strut
- Remove radiator
- Remove left front wheel (in direction of travel)
- Remove steering gear cover
IMPORTANT: Observe note on unlocking and disconnecting different plug connections.
Disconnect plug connection (1). Press in pin (2). Disconnect plug connection (3).
Unscrew nut (1) and remove A/C lines and associated sealing rings.
Tightening torque: 64 52 01AZ
IMPORTANT: Close openings or line to compressor with special tool 32 1 270, to avoid media leak and dirt contamination.
Unfasten screws (2). While doing so, start by disconnecting lower screw marked with arrow.
Tightening torque: 64 52 06AZ
IMPORTANT: Risk of damage.
Spacer sleeve (2) is located on screw (1). Spacer sleeve (2) is secured with rubber ring against falling down. Therefore, do not pull screw (1) any further after releasing it to prevent losing spacer sleeve (2).
Installation note:
Make sure without fail to ensure that shim (2) is seated on screw (1).
Replacement:
Modify screw (1) with spacer sleeve (2) to fit new air conditioning compressor.
IMPORTANT:
Danger of injury.
Risk of damage.
Prior to removing air conditioning compressor, cover cooling fins, for example, with an aluminium sheet.
Set coolant hoses and A/C lines aside and carefully feed air conditioning compressor (1) forwards, then upwards.
After installation:
- Evacuate and fill A/C system
