Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair
17 22 010 - Removing and installing/replacing heat exchanger for automatic transmission (M57T2, N54)
Important!
Danger of scalding!
Only perform this work after engine has cooled down.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Follow instructions for working 17 00 ... Instructions For Working on Cooling System on cooling system.
- Drain coolant
- Remove fan cowl Service and Repair
Recycling
Catch and dispose of drained coolant in a suitable container.
Transmission fluid emerges when oil lines are detached from heat exchanger.
Catch and dispose of escaping transmission fluid in a suitable container.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
Picture shows M57T2:
Release and disconnect coolant hoses (1).
Release screw and remove lines (2).
Installation Note:
- Replace sealing rings.
- Tightening torque 17 22 1AZ [1][2]17 21 Engine Oil Cooler.
Unclip hose (3).
Release screws (4) and remove heat exchanger (5).
Installation Note:
- Tightening torque 17 22 2AZ [1][2]17 21 Engine Oil Cooler.
Important!
Distance between oil cooler line and ribbed V-belt must be at least 25 mm.
Check fluid level in automatic transmission Procedures.
