11 78 613 Replacing Both Lambda Oxygen Monitor Sensors




11 78 613 - Replacing both lambda oxygen monitor sensors (N54)





Special tools required:






Warning!
Scalding hazard!

Work should only be carried out on an exhaust system that has cooled down.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove rear underbody protection 51 47 491 Removing and Installing/Replacing Rear Underbody Protection
- Remove exhaust system Service and Repair.





Installation Note:
The threads of new lambda control/monitor sensors are already coated with Never Seez Compound (refer to BMW Parts Service).

If a lambda control/monitor sensor is to be reused, apply a thin and even coating of Never Seez Compound to the thread only.

The part of the lambda control/monitor sensor which projects into the exhaust system branch (sensor ceramics) must not be cleaned and not coated with lubricant.





Unlock and disconnect plug connection for oxygen monitor sensor, cylinders 1 - 3.

Installation Note:
Plug connection must snap audibly into place!

Release oxygen monitor sensor (1) with special tools 11 7 030 and 11 9 150.

Important!
When using special tool 11 7 030 in conjunction with special tool 11 9 150, it is essential to reduced the prescribed tightening torque by 3 Nm.

Tightening torque 11 78 1AZ Specifications.

Installation Note:
Cable color black for oxygen monitor sensor (1), cylinders 1 - 3.





Note:
Release insulation (2) in direction of arrow.

Unlock and disconnect plug connection for oxygen monitor sensor, cylinders 4 - 6.

Installation Note:
Plug connection must snap audibly into place!

Release oxygen monitor sensor (1) with special tool 11 7 020.

Tightening torque 11 78 1AZ Specifications.

Installation Note:
Cable color grey for oxygen monitor sensor (1), cylinders 4 - 6.





Assemble engine.

Check function of DME control unit.
