Removing and Installing/Replacing Coolant Thermostat



11 53 000 Removing and installing/replacing coolant thermostat (N62)







WARNING:
Risk of scalding.
Only perform this repair work on an engine that has cooled down.
Danger of injury.
Risk of slipping due to coolant on the floor.







Recycling:
Catch and dispose of drained coolant.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.


IMPORTANT:
Protect plug connections against coolant and contamination.
Cover plug connections with suitable materials.







Follow notes for repair work on cooling system.

Necessary preliminary tasks:
Remove front underbody protection
Place oil drip tray for coolant under engine compartment.







Disconnect coolant hoses (arrows) from thermostat using grips.







Unlock connector (1) and remove.
Unlock and detach water hose (2).
Unfasten nut.
Release screws and remove coolant thermostat (3).
Tightening torque 11 53 1AZ. 00 00 Excerpt From Company Standard BMW GS 90003-2







NOTE: Coolant thermostat is integrated in cover and can only be replaced as a complete unit.

Clean sealing surfaces.
Replace sealing ring (1).

Installation note:
Top up coolant.
Check function of cooling system.

Check coolant hoses for cracks and damage.
Renew coolant hoses as required.

Recommendation:
On vehicles older than five years, renew coolant hoses.
